Dr. E. S. Cooper
Died at his home in Old Henderson last night, was brought to this city Thursday morning. For several weeks suffering from diabetis and had been confined to his home. A few days ago two large carbuncles appeared on his back and it was these that hastened his death. Dr. Cooper was perhaps one of the best known physicians of this area. He was born in Ohio, his parents being of German origin. He studied medicine in his native state and soon after graduation came to this county and settled in Old Henderson about 1850. He served as surgeon 83d Regt. Ill. Vol. Inf. during the civil war and surviving members were and have been always by is side and thoughts. The night was never too dark, nor the weather to severe for him to make a house call. His wife Mary Martin bore him seven children, four sons, three daughters. Six living. Three sons are engaged in the practice of medicine and studied with their father; Dr. Lang of San Francisco. The late Dr. W. H. Hamilton of this city; Dr. Aldrich of this city; and Dr. Bunce were all his students. His brother, Elias was also a surgeon of much note and died in San Francisco some years ago. Funeral service M. E. Church of Henderson Saturday afternoon.
